NGO Darpan Registration

Give your NGO a verified identity the government can recognise.

Darpan Registration is the process of listing your Trust, Society, or Section 8 Company on the NGO-Darpan portal maintained by NITI Aayog, in partnership with NGOs and government ministries across India. Once approved, your organisation receives a unique Darpan ID — the reference number ministries, funding bodies, and CSR desks use to verify who you are before releasing any grant, scheme access, or partnership.

Without a Darpan ID, most government grants, several state schemes, and many corporate CSR programmes simply aren't open to your organisation — no matter how strong your work is on the ground. Getting it right the first time means clean organisational data, correctly matched governing-body details, and documents formatted the way the portal expects, which is exactly where our team steps in.

Eligible Entities

Which organisations can register on NGO-Darpan?

The portal accepts voluntary, not-for-profit organisations formed under recognised Indian laws. Here's how each structure fits into the Darpan ecosystem.

Public Charitable Trust

Registered under the applicable state Trusts Act with a valid trust deed — the most common structure for community and welfare organisations.

Most Common

Registered Society

Incorporated under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 (or its state amendment), with a governing body and registered bye-laws on file.

Section 8 Company

A non-profit company incorporated under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013, for charitable, educational, or social objectives.

Voluntary Organisation (VO)

Any not-for-profit voluntary body working on social, educational, health, or environmental causes, registered under an applicable statute.

Educational & Research Trusts

Trusts and societies formed specifically for educational, research, or academic welfare purposes, eligible on the same portal.

Not Eligible

Private companies, LLPs, sole proprietorships, and unregistered informal groups cannot be listed on NGO-Darpan.

The Process

From application to Unique ID, in eight steps

Here's exactly what happens between opening a Darpan account and holding a live, verified Unique ID for your NGO.

1

Eligibility Check

We confirm your Trust, Society, or Section 8 Company meets the registration and documentation requirements before starting the application.

2

Darpan Account Creation

We create your organisation's login on the NGO-Darpan portal using an authorised signatory's verified email and mobile number.

3

Organisation Profile

Legal name, registration details, address, sector of work, and governing-body information are entered exactly as per your founding documents.

4

Document Upload

Registration certificate, PAN, address proof, and key-functionary details are scanned and uploaded in the portal's required format.

5

Key Functionary Details

Names, designations, and identity proofs of trustees, governing-body members, or directors are added and cross-checked for consistency.

6

Application Submission

The completed profile is reviewed line by line and submitted for verification by the concerned state nodal department.

7

Verification & Review

The nodal authority reviews the submitted details and may request clarification — we track and respond to every query on your behalf.

8

Unique ID Issued

Once approved, your NGO receives a permanent Darpan Unique ID, ready to be quoted in grant and scheme applications.

Eligibility

Who can register on NGO-Darpan?

The portal is built for genuine, already-registered not-for-profit organisations. Here's the baseline criteria your NGO needs to meet.

Valid Prior Registration

A PAN issued in the organisation's name, used to verify identity and link financial records on the portal.

Registered Office Address

A verifiable office or operational address matching the one on your registration certificate and bank records.

Active Bank Account

A bank account held in the organisation's name, required to complete profile verification and future fund transfers.

Lawful Social Objective

Clearly stated charitable, educational, health, or developmental objectives, as reflected in your founding deed or memorandum.

Paperwork

Documents you'll need to keep handy

Gathering these upfront is the single biggest thing you can do to speed up your NGO's Darpan verification.

Yes, as soon as your Trust, Society, or Section 8 Company registration and PAN are in hand, you can begin the Darpan application.
